Polybiotic™ has been specially formulated to support the immune system. Highly rich in vitamin C and combined with four high quality herbs containing properties that may offer support to the body's immune system.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that serves hundreds of biological functions in the human body. Vitamin C can contribute to the prevention and therapy of the common cold. Several immune system cells can accumulate vitamin C, and require it in order to function properly, especially phagocytes and T cells. Thus, vitamin C deficiency can result in a reduced resistance against certain pathogens while a higher supply enhances several immune system parameters. Stress can also deplete levels of vitamin C in the body. It is well documented that vitamin C concentrations in the plasma and leukocytes rapidly decline during infections and stress. Supplementation of vitamin C improves components of the immune system such as antimicrobial and natural killer (NK) cells activities and lymphocyte proliferation, chemotaxis and delayed-type hypersensitivity. Vitamin C contributes with the maintenance of the entirety of cells and thereby protects them against reactive oxygen species generated during the respiratory burst and the immune response.

Goldenseal was used by Native Americans for irritation and inflammation in the mucous membranes of the respiratory, digestive, and urinary tracts. Goldenseal is often recommended by herbalists in combination with echinacea for cold and flu symptoms. Its benefits are most likely limited to helping ease the discomfort of sore throat. Goldenseal contains two primary alkaloids, berberine and hydrastine. Berberine, the most extensively researched of the two, accounts for 0.5 to 6.0% of the alkaloids present in goldenseal. In test tube studies, a wide spectrum of antibiotic activity against disease-causing organisms was shown.

Taheebo has a long and well-documented history of use by the indigenous peoples of the rainforest. Indications imply that its use may actually predate back to the Incas. In North American herbal medicine it is considered a laxative with analgesic, anti-oxidant, antiparasitic, antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is used for fevers, infections, colds, flu, and many more applications. The plant contains a large amount of chemicals known as quinoids, and a small quantity of benzenoids and flavonoids. These quinoids (and chiefly, anthraquinones, furanonaphthoquinones, lapachones, and naphthoquinones) have shown the most documented biological activity and are seen to be the center of the plant's efficacy as an herbal remedy. Clinical researchers have concluded that the chemical lapachol demonstrated highly significant activity against cell degeneration.

Echinacea was used by Native Americans for a variety of conditions, including venomous bites and other external wounds. It was introduced to U.S. medical practice in 1887, and was advertised for use in conditions raging from colds to sexually transmitted diseases. Modern research started in the 1930s in Germany. Echinacea is thought to support the immune system by activating white blood cells. Three major groups of constituents may work together to increase the production and activity of white blood cells (lymphocytes and macrophages) including alkylamides/polyacetylenes, caffeic acid, and polysaccharides. Echinacea may also increase production of interferon, an important part of the body's response to viral infections.
