Depressil™
60 Veggie Capsules
Depression is a mental condition characterized by unhappy, hopeless feelings. It can be a response to stressful events, hormonal imbalances, biochemical abnormalities, or many other hidden factors. Signs of depression can include: sad mood, diminished interest in most activities, weight loss or gain, insomnia, fatigue, lack of energy, feelings of worthlessness, lack of concentration, recurrent thoughts of death, and suicide attempts.
Since depression is a serious health condition, a person with depression should be diagnosed by a psychologist, psychiatrist, or licensed mental health professional.
Depressil™ is a combination of St. John’s Wort extract, 5-HTP, and six additional and important compounds that promote a state of mental well-being.
Ingredients
St. John’s Wort extract contains hypericin, hyperforin, and other dianthrones, flavonoids, and xanthones. This plant appears to support neurotransmission in the brain. Test tube research suggests that St. John’s Wort may promote antidepressant actions by inhibiting the reuptake of the neurotransmitters: serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. This action may be due to the constituent hyperforin.
Clinical studies appear to provide increasing evidence for a direct correlation between vitamin Dinsufficiency and depression. Vitamin D is often recommended to people with clinical depression and vitamin D deficiency.
The Journal of Nutrition suggests that there is a relationship between selenium concentration and signs of depression as well as negative mood among young adults. Young adults with either too low or too high levels of selenium show the highest risk of depressive symptoms and poorer mood. However, low levels of selenium appear to be more detrimental to mood.
Vervain is known as a calming, restorative herb for debilitated conditions as well as a stimulant for the liver and digestion. It is used by many cultures and for several conditions. Vervain supports the nervous system while promoting relaxation and reducing stress.
Ginkgo biloba is believed to increase blood flow through the arteries and veins in various tissues. Several small clinical trials have suggested that ginkgo may help support overall functioning in individuals with peripheral arterial disease and claudication, a condition characterized by calf muscle pain that occurs during walking due to narrowed or blocked arteries. Other studies suggest that this compound might relieve mild depression. The anti-depressive mechanisms of ginkgo biloba are not fully understood yet.
L-phenylalanine (LPA) acts as a building block for several proteins that are produced in the body. LPA can be converted to L-tyrosine and subsequently to L-dopa, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. LPA can also be converted (through a separate pathway) to phenylethylamine, an important agent that occurs naturally in the brain and promotes mood elevation.
Damiana was originally used by indigenous cultures of Central America, particularly Mexico. It contains numerous small, fragrant substances called terpenes. It is considered an aphrodisiac and used for several conditions, including neurosis and sexual disorders. Damiana is also used to help improve mood.
