Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is an outstanding, vitamin-like antioxidant that is used to promote glucose control, liver health, healthy cell reproduction, and to protect against oxidative processes leading to premature aging and many other degenerative conditions.
 
This product contains R-Alpha Lipoic Acid (R-ALA), a more potent form of ALA.  Clinical studies have shown that R-ALA is a more biologically active form of ALA delivering greater antioxidant and neuroprotective benefits at much smaller doses than the synthetic forms of lipoic acids presently available.

The process of aging is noticeable by a decline in cognitive activity and the synthesis and recycling of important antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, co-enzyme Q-10, and glutathione. This decrease in antioxidant function and activity limits the body’s ability to control free radicals.  Free radicals are dangerous, unpaired electrons that proliferate through the organism, damaging cell membranes and organs, weakening immune function, disrupting DNA strands, and leading to cellular degeneration and degenerative conditions.  Presently, researchers have found that alpha lipoic acid is able to cycle vitamins E and C to ward off free radicals.

R-Alpha Lipoic Acid is directly involved in cellular metabolism and it is considered an important “mitochondrial antioxidant”.  It is an essential component of the intracellular antioxidant cycle, able to search for a variety of free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) while recycling micronutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin E, glutathione, and co-enzyme Q-10.  R-Alpha Lipoic Acid is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and has shown effectiveness in elevating intracellular glutathione levels.  R-Alpha Lipoic Acid helps regulate neural calcium homeostasis, regulates pro-inflammatory cytokines (small secreted proteins that modulate inflammation), and alters the expression of “toxic genes”.
