Cholesterol at normal levels is an essential substance for the organism. High concentration of cholesterol in the blood is considered dangerous leading to the risk of heart attack. Cholesterol, a sterol and type of lipid, is present in every cell of the body and has essential functions when it comes to digesting foods, producing hormones, and secreting vitamin D.

The organism produces cholesterol but people also consume it in food. Cholesterol is an oil-based substance that does not mix with blood. It circulates around the organism in lipoproteins. Two types of lipoproteins carry parcels of cholesterol: low-density lipoproteins (LDL) or “bad cholesterol” and high-density lipoproteins (HDL) or “good cholesterol”.

High cholesterol is a significant risk factor for coronary heart disease and the cause of many heart attacks. Build-up of cholesterol is part of a process that narrows arteries called atherosclerosis. In this condition, plaques form and cause restriction of blood flow. Reducing the consumption of fat and empty carbohydrates in the diet helps manage cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is present in all animal foods.

Obesity can lead to higher blood LDL levels. Genetic factors can also contribute to high cholesterol. Individuals with the inherited condition hypercholesterolemia have very high LDL levels. Other conditions that can lead to higher cholesterol levels include diabetes, liver or kidney disease, polycystic ovary syndrome, underactive thyroid hormone, and some prescribed medications.

This product is a combination of red yeast rice and inositol hexaniacinate to support healthy cholesterol levels.

Red yeast rice is a substance extracted from rice that has been fermented with a type of yeast called Monascus purpureus. It has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for centuries.

Red yeast rice contains several compounds that may promote controlled cholesterol levels. These include a number of monacolins (monacolin K), sterols, isoflavones, and monounsaturated fatty acids.

Various studies in the United States have shown that a dosage of red yeast rice (2,500 mg a day) can promote the reduction of cholesterol levels as much as 20 to 25%. The effects of red yeast rice intake were also tested in China with 5000 people. The study showed that people with coronary artery disease (CAD) who took red yeast rice were 30 to 33% less likely to die from CAD or any other cause.

Inositol hexanicotinate also called flush-free niacin (vitamin B3) is a derivative and ester of two compounds – niacin and inositol. It is used to promote overall lipid (cholesterol) management, improvement in circulation of blood in the body and reduction of blood clotting.

Several clinical studies have demonstrated that inositol hexanicotinate may have a beneficial effect on vasodilatation and improving blood flow in conditions where blood flow is compromised.
