Aloe Vera Gel Complex

This product is a unique blend of quality aloe vera leaves and slippery elm bark extract. Both ingredients act synergistically and are effective in supporting digestive health.

Ingredients

Aloe vera originally came from Africa. The leaves, which are long, green, fleshy, and have spikes along the edges, are used medicinally. The gel, fresh from the leaves, and latex are used for many purposes. Aloe latex is the sticky residue left over after the liquid from cut aloe leaves has evaporated.

Aloe has historically been used for many of the same conditions for which it is still used today, including digestive disorders such as constipation, as well as minor cuts and burns. In India, as in many other countries, it has been used by herbalists for various digestive conditions.

The constituents of aloe latex responsible for its laxative effects are known as anthraquinone glycosides. These molecules are broken down by normal bacteria in the large intestine to form other molecules (aglycones), which exert the laxative effects of this plant.

Slippery elm has also been added to this supplement. The tree is native to North America, where it still grows primarily. The inner bark of the tree is the main part for therapeutic applications in herbalism.

Native Americans found many medicinal uses for this tree. The mucilage of slippery elm, found in the inner bark, gives it the soothing effect for which it is known. In people with heartburn, the mucilage appears to act as a barrier against the damaging effects of acid on the esophagus. It may also promote a local anti-inflammatory effect in the stomach and intestines. Slippery elm is generally considered safe.
