Aloe Vera : Organic
50 Veggie Capsules
The aloe plant is originally native to Africa. Its long, green, fleshy leaves with spiked edges have been traditionally used for medicinal purposes. Both the fresh leaf gel and latex are used in a variety of applications.
Aloe was historically used for many of the same conditions for which it is used today, particularly constipation and minor cuts and burns (gel form). In India, it has been used by herbalists for intestinal conditions and colic.
The constituents of aloe responsible for its laxative effects are known as anthraquinone glycosides. These molecules are broken down by normal bacteria in the large intestine to form other molecules (aglycones), which help stimulate bowel movements. Because aloe can have strong laxative effects, other herbs such as senna or cascara sagrada are sometimes used as alternatives.
It is not yet clear which constituents are responsible for the wound healing properties of aloe. Test tube studies suggest polysaccharides, such as acemannan, help promote skin healing. Aloe’s effects on the skin may also be enhanced by its high concentration of amino acids, as well as vitamin E, vitamin C, zinc, and essential fatty acids.
