Artichoke is native to the regions of Southern Europe, North Africa and the Canary Islands. The leaves of this plant are used therapeutically and are considered an important digestive aid.
Artichoke leaves contain many active constituents such as cynarin, 1,3 dicaffeoylquinic acid, 3-caffeoylquinic acid, and scolymoside. This plant has shown to promote choleretic (bile stimulating) action and good digestive activity. Standardized extract is used to promote liver health and to maintain healthy cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Also, the extract of this plant is useful for people with a tendency to develop gallstones.
