This product contains organic flaxseed oil, rich in linoleic acid (Omega-6), an essential fatty acid required for survival. Unlike most oils, it also contains significant amounts of alpha linolenic acid (ALA), an essential omega-3 fatty acid. In addition, flaxseed oil contains oleic acid (Omega-9), a monounsaturated fatty acid.
To a limited extent, ALA is converted in the organism to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). EPA is an omega-3 fatty acid found in fish oil that is converted into beneficial prostaglandins (hormone-like substances produced in different parts of the body rather than by a single organ, unlike most hormones).
Research published in 2008 in the “American Journal of Clinical Nutrition” reported that consuming ALA supplements for 3 months increased blood levels of DHA and EPA. The resulting increase in omega-3 fatty acids may promote cardiovascular health.
There is also evidence that regular consumption of flaxseed oil may promote regular bowel movements.
