Oregano Oil
60 Softgels
Oregano is a fragrant herb that has been valued for both its culinary and traditional medicinal uses throughout history. It was used extensively by the ancient Greeks for conditions ranging from convulsions to several other ailments. In the nineteenth century, American Eclectic physicians employed oregano as a tonic and to promote menstruation.
Oregano contains several constituents, including volatile oils such as carvacrol, thymol, and borneol. It also contains flavonoids, rosmarinic acid, triterpenoids, sterols, vitamin A, and vitamin C.
The thymol and carvacrol content in oregano is responsible for promoting its antimicrobial and antifungal effects. A study demonstrated that the oil, carvacrol in particular, inhibited the growth of Candida albicans far more effectively than a commonly used antifungal agent called calcium and magnesium caprylate.
According to a study conducted in Australia, oregano oil demonstrated not only antifungal activity but also antimicrobial properties against a broad range of bacteria.
Oregano oil should always be taken with caution, and one must not exceed the recommended dosage.
