Sea Moss+™
120 Veggie Capsules • 800 mg
This product is a combination of sea moss extract 10:1, chlorella, kelp, and spirulina. Seaweeds have been used as food for centuries mainly by countries in Asia. There is currently a lot of interest in seaweeds by the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmetic industry for their therapeutic and functional applications. Seaweeds are rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, and dietary fiber. They also contain polyphenols, polysaccharides, sterols, and many additional bioactive compounds. All these agents found in seaweeds have antioxidant properties and promote anti-inflammatory activity, glucose control, and healthy cellular reproduction.
The following is a brief description of each seaweed:
Sea moss (also known as Irish moss) is a type of red seaweed scientifically known as Chondrus crispus. Red seaweeds have distinctive pigments that give them their reddish color and allow them to perform photosynthesis in deeper waters. However, sea moss grows in shallow waters along the rocky Atlantic coast of North America and Europe. Historically, sea moss has played a significant role in traditional practices and has been an important food source in coastal communities. In Ireland, it was used to promote respiratory and digestive wellness. Sea moss has an impressive nutritional profile. It contains several beneficial nutrients such as carotenoids, fucoxanthin, vitamins A, C, and E, minerals, polyphenols and many other compounds.
Chlorella is a green single-celled microalgae with biological and pharmacological properties important for human health. Chlorella has a long history of use due to its functional macro and micro nutrients including proteins, omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, polysaccharides, vitamins, and minerals. Clinical research has suggested that supplementation of chlorella can improve the condition of individuals with hyperlipidemia (abnormally high concentration of fats or lipids in the blood) and hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), and protect against oxidative stress.
Kelp is a good source of several vitamins including folic acid and minerals such as iodine, potassium, calcium, and iron. Kelp is used for several conditions, especially for thyroid support. Since kelp is considered a major source of iodine, it aids in thyroid hormone production, reducing the risk of goiter (enlargement of thyroid gland caused by iodine deficiency), and reducing metabolism disruptions leading to unwanted symptoms such as weight gain.
Spirulina has been consumed by many for centuries due to its impressive nutritional value and believed health benefits. Presently, many important personalities endorse spirulina as a “superfood” and a “miracle from the sea”. Spirulina, a type of blue-green algae, grows naturally in oceans and salty lakes with subtropical climates. The Aztecs harvested spirulina from lake Texcoco in central Mexico while in west-central Africa it is still harvested from lake Chad. Spirulina is rich in nutrients and according to research it contains significant amounts of calcium, niacin, potassium, magnesium, B vitamins and iron. It is also rich in many essential amino acids (protein makes up about 60 to 70% of spirulina’s dry weight).
