Slippery Elm+™ is a combination of slippery elm bark and marshmallow root.  Together, they are rich in mucilage, a gel-like fiber that forms a powerful, protective, and soothing coating over tissues. This blend could help relieve digestive issues and other conditions.

Ingredients

The slippery elm tree is native to North America, where it still grows primarily.  In herbal practice, the inner bark is the primary part used for its therapeutic properties, a use first recognized by Native Americans, who valued the tree for its many medicinal applications. The mucilage of slippery elm, found in the inner bark, gives it the soothing effect for which it is known. In people with heartburn, the mucilage appears to act as a barrier against the damaging effects of stomach acid on the esophagus. It may also promote localized anti-inflammatory effects in the stomach and intestines. Slippery elm is generally considered safe.

The marshmallow plant thrives in wet areas and grows primarily in treeless wetlands. Native to Europe, it is now also found throughout the United States.  Both the root and leaves are used medicinally. Marshmallow has long been used by herbalists for digestive conditions as well as for coughs and sore throats. Its high mucilage content provides a gentle coating effect on irritated mucous membranes. For this reason, it has long been used as a traditional soothing agent for the digestive and respiratory tracts.
